The Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division’s Communication Department conducted a Communication Summit which was held in Harare Zimbabwe. that was aimed at equipping all its church communicators with the skills of media evangelism. Running under the theme, Creativity in Mission, the two-day intensive Summit had professional facilitators from around the world, who covered topical issues such as communication strategy, newsgathering, branding and logo design, cinematography and choosing the right gear for the mission of the church. Besides media-related topics, the organizers of the meeting saw it that the delegates also have retirement coaching to prepare then for the future. Participants also received training on risk management which was conducted by Adventist Risk Management.
The summit was officially opened by the SID President, Dr Solomon Maphosa, who urged the participants to use the tools that they have in their hands for evangelism. He also reminded them that media had a huge role to play in spreading the gospel to all corners of the world as it could cross all boundaries. The occasion was also graced by Jennifer Stymiest from the General Conference’s Communication Department. Besides the valuable theory, the summit also equipped the participants with practical work, which the participants found very informative. Delegates left Zimbabwe with new found inspiration to be creative in mission.
